The yield on the ten-year US Treasury bond continued to rise Monday morning, standing at 2.415%, after ending at 2.385% on Friday night in New York. US Treasury bond yields were supported on Friday by the strength of the monthly US payrolls report, after falling in previous sessions due to end-of-quarter buying. Yields on short-term Treasuries rose more than longer-term ones on Friday, reflecting expectations that the Fed could start raising its key rate in half-percentage-point increments at its next meetings to to try to control inflation. Bond investors pay particular attention to wage growth, which can fuel headline inflation over the long term. But March data showed that wages were rising at a rapid pace.

The euro posted a slight increase against the dollar on Monday. The greenback barely reacted to the news of robust job creation in the United States in March, while yield spreads moved slightly in favor of the other G10 currencies, leaving them almost unchanged at the end of the week against the US currency, says Jonathan Petersen of Capital Economics.

Crude oil futures are trading slightly higher on Monday morning. By 7:30 a.m., the June contract on Brent was up 16 cents, at $104.55 a barrel, while the May contract on Nymex-listed light sweet crude (WTI) was up 4 cents, at $99.34 a barrel.
