Prices were swayed by the attack by Houthi rebels on Saudi oil facilities amid stalled Russia-Ukraine peace talks and potential additional Western sanctions.
Around 10:15 a.m. GMT (11:15 a.m. CET), a barrel of Brent from the North Sea for delivery in May took 3.48% to 111.69 dollars. A barrel of West Texas Intermediate (WTI) for April delivery gained 3.77% to 108.65 dollars.
Both types of oil had fallen below $100 over the past week. In addition to the war in Ukraine, Saudi Arabia announced on Sunday a "temporary reduction" in its oil production at one of the giant Aramco's facilities, hit by an attack by Houthi rebels from neighboring Yemen.
Conversely, the price of natural gas continued to decline, even falling below 100 euros per megawatt hour for the first time since March 4 (-6.04% to 99 euros at 11:05 GMT). It had peaked at 345 euros on March 7.
