An article was published on March 9, 2022 on social networks announcing a devaluation of the FCFA against the euro. In a press release published on Friday March 11, 2022, the Central Bank of West African States (Bceao) formally denies it.

Reserving the right to initiate legal proceedings against the perpetrators and accomplices of acts and messages likely to undermine the monetary signs having legal tender in the member states of Umoa, the BCEAO denies a possible devaluation of the FCFA . The Central Bank specifies that the exchange rate between the Euro and the FCFA remains unchanged, namely 1 euro = 655.957 FCFA. It also recalls that the official exchange rates of the main currencies are published daily on its website which can be consulted on www.bceao.int in the Statistics section – “Currency rates against CFA Franc”. Subsequently, it invites the populations to the greatest vigilance and to refer only to the usual official communication channels of the Issuing Institute.
