The Islamic Development Bank (IDB) has granted funding of $270 million to Senegal for the construction of the Meckhe - Saint-Louis axis. Also called "The Coastal", the 200 km highway will constitute an essential link of the trans-African corridors, Tangier - Nouakchott - Dakar - Lagos and Algiers - Nouakchott - Dakar, for which extensions are planned towards Madrid in Spain. The Dakar - Saint-Louis highway will reduce vehicle operating costs and travel time, and provide better access to regional social services and amenities.
