Hoping to woo the Financial Action Task Force (FATF), Botswana says it is ready to unveil the companies' ultimate beneficiaries.

After leaving the famous FATF gray list at the end of October 2021, Botswana wants to undertake the reforms promised to the international financial institution. According to President Mokgweetsi Masisi, the next task on the agenda in the fight against money laundering is to make public the register of ultimate beneficiaries of companies. Already, the Botswana parliament is working on a bill to amend the Companies Act. The text will require the public declaration of all beneficial owners of any company. Also, the names of the beneficial owners will be declared to the authority in charge of companies and intellectual property.
