Wormhole, u. n site that allows information to be transferred from one cryptocurrency network to another has been scammed. Hackers have stolen cryptocurrencies worth over $320 million from a decentralized financial platform.

It is the fourth largest cryptocurrency heist on record and the latest to rock the booming DeFi sector. Wormhole said on Twitter on Wednesday that it had been "mined" for 120,000 units of a version of the second-largest cryptocurrency, ether. London-based blockchain analytics firm Elliptic said the attackers were able to fraudulently create the wETH tokens, nearly 94,000 of which were then transferred to the ethereum blockchain, which powers ether transactions. Wormhole said in another tweet early Thursday that he had patched the vulnerability in his system, but was still working on getting the network back up and running.
