Parliamentarians justify this rejection with a tax on electronic transactions, including mobile money payments.
After a walkout by NPP majority MPs over a disagreement with the speaker of parliament, Ghana's 2022 budget was rejected. If the deputies of the NPP majority had defended the budget, those of the NDC claimed that it should be rejected because of the 1.75% tax on all electronic financial transactions. Minority leader Haruna Iddrisu has argued that the announced tax will overburden Ghanaians and be a drag on investment and private sector development. Thus, while the deputies of the NPP party who should vote for the "YES" were not found, those of the minority NDC (opposition), proceeded to vote and rejected the 2022 budget with a NO.
