The dollar hit a five-month low against the Chinese yuan overnight at 6.3615 and was still down around 0.1% on the day at 1242 GMT at 6.3877.

The dollar moved Tuesday at the highest level in 16 months against the euro, benefiting from a message from James Bullard, president of the Fed of St Louis, who pleaded for an acceleration of the tightening of monetary policy. The dollar took 0.22% to 1.1344 dollars for one euro around 4:25 p.m. GMT (5:25 p.m. in Paris), after rising to its highest since July 2020 at 1.1330 dollars. For the past month, the single European currency has plummeted by 2.5% against the greenback.

But the Australian dollar was down 0.1% at $0.73385. The pound was up 0.3% against the dollar at $1.3467. The Swedish krona rose around 0.3% against the dollar to 8.789. Swedish headline inflation hit its fastest pace since 2008 in October, data showed on Monday. The Dollar Index remained near its highest level in 16 months. At 12:38 GMT, the Dollar Index was stable for the day at 95.541.
