Final negotiations in Glasgow for an agreement at the climate conference

It's time for the final negotiations in Glasgow to reach an agreement at the world climate conference, considered crucial to preserve the chances of meeting the objectives of the fight against climate change. After long and difficult negotiations on Thursday, the British presidency of COP26 said it wanted to present a new draft final declaration early on Friday, which could still be amended before the hammer blow marking its adoption. The conference is officially due to end at 6:00 p.m. GMT, but negotiators from some 200 member countries may well, as often, have to go into extra time. "There is still a lot of work to do," said British COP President Alok Sharma on Thursday, warning delegates: "The world is watching us. (...) We cannot let it down." Because after the adoption Thursday evening of the consensual chapters, there remain several subjects of discord, in particular the financing of the poor countries, the least responsible for global warming but often the most exposed to its consequences.

Migrants: Belarus threatens to cut gas to Europe in case of sanctions

Belarus, accused of fomenting a migration crisis on its border with Poland, has threatened to respond to possible European sanctions by closing the valves of a major gas pipeline passing through its territory. In the event of punitive measures, Minsk "will respond", said President Alexander Lukashenko, raising the possibility of interrupting deliveries of the Yamal-Europe gas pipeline which carries Russian gas to Germany and Poland, in particular. "What would happen if we cut off the natural gas that goes there?", Launched Mr. Lukashenko, whose threat comes at a time when European countries are faced with soaring gas prices due to shortages. The situation on the border between Belarus and Poland, two Central European countries, the first of which is an ally of Moscow and the second member of the EU and NATO, is arousing growing concern among the international community. The UN Security Council is due to consider this issue on Thursday. More than 2,000 migrants, including Kurds from the Middle East, have been stranded for several days in a makeshift camp on the border, where they warm themselves by burning wood to withstand temperatures close to 0degC.

IN SHORT

The Covaxin vaccine, the first developed in India against Covid-19, clearly prevents being struck by the disease, shows a study published on Thursday, while the World Health Organization (WHO) has already approved this promising vaccine for the poor countries.

Arrested on Wednesday morning, Paris Saint-Germain player Aminata Diallo is free: the police custody of the French international, who was suspected after the attack on her teammate Kheira Hamraoui, ended Thursday at the end of afternoon and no charges were brought against her.
