Traffickers were apprehended on October 26, 2021, in Lomé, in possession of forty-one red-tailed gray parrots, a fully protected species. They were transferred to the civil prison of Lomé on November 2, 2021.

The named Barrigah Théodos and Kpade Yao, of Togolese nationality and Nengi Boro Innocent, of Nigerian nationality were placed in police custody. These three men were arrested for flagrante delicto of possession, movement and illegal marketing of wildlife products in Lomé. Subsequently, they were presented to the prosecutor and admitted the facts before being transferred to the civil prison of Lomé. They will have to incur a prison sentence ranging from one to five years and a fine of one million to 50 million CFA francs. The arrest operation was carried out by agents of the Central Office for the Repression of Illicit Trafficking in Drugs and Money Laundering (OCRTIDB) and the Ministry of the Environment and Forest Resources (MERF), in collaboration with EAGLE- Togo.
