The annual report of the Central Bank of West African States (BCEAO) notes that exports of goods and services in WAEMU amounted to 20,195.3 billion FCFA. The drop is estimated at 2.8% compared to 2019.

The BCEAO report reveals that total exports of goods in value of WAEMU countries stood at 17.753 billion in 2020, up 0.5% compared to the level recorded a year earlier. According to the financial institute, this trend in foreign sales is mainly related to the decline in sales of petroleum products, cotton, coffee products as well as the decline in revenue from tourism activities. With regard to services, exports stood at 2.7% of GDP in 2020, i.e. a decline of 0.8 point of GDP compared to their level of 2019. Imports of goods and services also recorded a drop by 2.2% in 2020, standing at 25,280.4 billion FCFA against 25,836.9 billion a year earlier.
