France and Côte d'Ivoire have been engaged in debt negotiations for several months. Thus, the Ivorian and French finance ministers signed a third debt reduction and development contract.

This new dynamic between the two countries makes it possible to convert the debt into a gift. Adama Coulibaly, the Ivorian Minister of Economy and Finance, and his French counterpart, Bruno Le Maire, have signed a debt reduction and development contract in favor of Côte d'Ivoire. The objective is to transform part of the Ivorian debts into subsidies for its own benefit, for 1.14 billion euros, or 751 billion CFA francs. Recall that a first debt reduction and development contract was adopted in 2012, a second in 2014, for a cumulative amount of the three contracts of some 2.9 billion euros.
