The International Monetary Fund (IMF) forecasts economic growth of 3.7% in 2021 and 3.8% in 2022 for the sub-Saharan Africa region. This increase would represent the slowest recovery compared to other regions.

The Bretton Woods institution noted for sub-Saharan Africa an appreciated progress, but which still represents the slowest recovery compared to the other regions. The Director of the IMF's African Department, Abebe Aemro Selassie, says the economic outlook is diverging on several levels: between sub-Saharan Africa and other regions, and within countries. He notes that these discrepancies reflect the slower deployment of vaccines in the region, more limited fiscal space and regional disparities in resilience.
