The “Monthly note on the economic situation in the WAEMU countries at the end of August 2021” reveals that non-financial market services experienced strong growth in August 2021. Year-on-year, they stood at +16.0%.

The increase in the turnover of non-financial market services is observed in all UEMOA countries. According to the document, this development is explained by the fact that at this time of the previous year the activity had been strongly affected by the coronavirus crisis. The most significant increases in non-financial market services concerned Senegal (+33.0%), Niger (+24.6%), Togo and Mali (+19.8%), Benin (+16 .5%). Côte d'Ivoire (+9.0%), Burkina (+7.3%) and Guinea-Bissau (+4.4%) recorded a lesser increase.

The same document, published by the Central Bank of West African States (Bceao) indicates that the industrial production index is on an upward trend, with a monthly increase of 2.3% in August 2021, after an increase of 3.9% the previous month. Year-on-year, industrial production increased by 6.9%, after achieving 7.4% in July 2021.
