The gross domestic product (GDP) of the West African Economic and Monetary Union (UEMOA) is up 7.7% in the second quarter of 2021, year on year. After a 3.4% increase in the 1 st quarter, the recovery of economic activity within the zone consolidated in the second quarter of 2021.

The Central Bank of West African States (Bceao) informs that the growth of GDP in volume in the Union results from the good orientation of economic activity in all sectors. It indicates that the added value of the tertiary sector increased over one year by 9.3% in the second quarter of 2021, after an increase of 3.7% the previous quarter. The latest quarterly report of central bank statistics notes that the secondary sector recorded an acceleration in the pace of production at the rate of 7.1% in the second quarter of 2021, against 2.7% a quarter earlier.
