The Director of Business Statistics and the Economic Situation at the National Institute of Statistics (INS), Dr N'Goran Kouassi deplored Thursday, October 14, 2021, in Abidjan the high cost of living in Côte d'Ivoire. Speaking at a workshop for the dissemination of the Harmonized Consumer Price Index (HICP) Base 2014, at the National School of Statistics and Applied Economics of Abidjan (ENSEA), Dr N'Goran Kouassi noted that "this inflation rate is above the community convergence threshold set at 3% by the West African Economic and Monetary Union (UEMOA)". This situation is attributable to the effects of COVID-19 with, in particular, the closure of certain points of sale, the limitation of the number of passengers in public transport vehicles and the isolation of the district of Abidjan. It should be noted that the establishment of the 2014 IHPC Base benefited from technical support from AFRISTAT and financial support from the Union.
