The dollar catches its breath this Thursday, September 30, 2021 while the pound goes up. The greenback was stabilizing against a basket of other major currencies after hitting a one-year high the previous day, while the British pound rallied.

Around 2:40 p.m. GMT (4:40 p.m. CET), the Dollar index, which compares the American currency to other major currencies, yielded some 0.07% to 94.27 points after reaching around 10:30 a.m. GMT 94.50 points, at a high since a year. The euro remained down, however, by 0.07% at 1.1590 dollars, after reaching around 10:30 GMT 1.1568 dollars, the lowest since July 2020. A tightening of monetary policy would benefit the dollar, especially if a slowdown in the asset purchase program in November led to a faster-than-expected rise in rates. The British pound recovered but remained down 1.5% over three sessions. Thursday, it gained 0.39% to 1.3478 dollars.
