This year 2021, investments in debt securities issued by the States of the West African Economic and Monetary Union (UEMOA) will record a drop in gains according to the outlook of the BCEAO.

The growing interest in public debt securities for WAEMU financial investors is pushing the Central Bank of the sub-region to predict a decline in issues in value. Thus, institutions that invest in debt securities will have fewer opportunities this year 2021 to generate income in this segment of activity. According to the report on monetary policy published on September 22 by the BCEAO, there could ultimately be 6,895.7 billion FCFA ($12.3 billion) in public securities issued, if the various timetables are respected. This will be 34.2% less than in 2020. The overall amount of gross securities issues on the regional public debt market amounted to 4101.0 billion in the first half of 2021, down 498.1 billion or 10.8% compared to the first half of 2020. This decline goes hand in hand with a decline in average yields, on both Treasury bills and Treasury bonds.
