Nigeria announces for next October 1, the launch of a digital version of its currency, the eNaira. For the realization of this project, the leaders have entered into a partnership with a foreign company in the fintech sector.

In an effort to ride out the wave of cryptocurrency popularity, central banks around the world are exploring ways to create digital versions. The first economy of the African continent announces that a digital version of the eNaira will soon be launched by its Central Bank. The country thus joins its West African neighbor Ghana, which also promises the establishment of an e-Cedi. In 2020, the West African giant of 200 million inhabitants was ranked third user of virtual currencies in the world after the United States and Russia, according to a study by the specialized research firm Statista. While cryptocurrencies escape any state control or global regulators, central banks intend to take up this challenge in order to get their hands on the sector.
