Since November, the greenback has held above the European currency. For its part, the pound remained calm after the latest UK inflation figures.

The dollar fell back slightly against the euro on Wednesday but remained close to its highest since early November. Around 9:20 a.m. GMT (11:20 a.m. CET), the euro gained 0.07% to 1.1719 dollars, after falling overnight to 1.1702 dollars, a first since November 4, 2020. The dollar has been benefiting since the start of the week of its safe haven status. In addition to the spread of the Delta variant of Covid-19, investors are worried about the situation in Afghanistan, where the Taliban completed their takeover of the country on Sunday. Currency traders are waiting for the Jackson Hole symposium next week to pick up on the clues left here and there by central bankers on the future of their monetary policy.

The pound remained calm after the Office for National Statistics (ONS) published that UK inflation slowed to 2% year on year in July, following a 2.5% rise in prices in June . The institution estimated in early August that inflation in the United Kingdom could decline after having temporarily climbed to 4% in the fourth quarter. The British currency gained 0.07% against the dollar, at 1.3750 dollars, and was almost stable against the euro, at 85.22 pence.
