The latest publication "Monthly Economic Update @ 2021" from the Department of Forecasting and Economic Studies (DPEE) reveals that the Senegalese economy has recorded gains in price competitiveness. These gains obtained in June 2021 are evaluated at 2.7%, in monthly variation under the combined effect of the depreciation of the CFA franc against the currency of the partner countries (-0.2%) and the differential of favorable inflation (-2.5%).

Year-on-year, the price competitiveness of the Senegalese economy improved by 2.6%. This strengthening is mainly explained by the favorable inflation differential (-5.3%) over the period, lessened by the appreciation of the CFA franc against the currency of partner countries (+2.7%). Compared to partner countries that are members of WAEMU, gains in competitiveness estimated at 0.2% are noted, in connection with the favorable inflation differential. However, vis-à-vis partner members of the Euro zone, notes the Dpee, competitiveness has deteriorated compared to the previous month, resulting from an unfavorable inflation differential.
