In Lomé, on Monday August 09, 2021, the Interparliamentary Committee of the West African Economic and Monetary Union (UEMOA) opened its 48th ordinary session. During the 10 days that the session will last, parliamentarians will debate the challenges and perspectives of the institution in terms of community development.

About five (05) months after the 47th session which was finally held from March 15 to 24, 2021 in Bamako, following the postponement of that of 2020, due to covid-19, the Interparliamentary Committee of Uemoa ( CIP-Uemoa) will meet again in 2021, this time on behalf of its 48th ordinary session. For this new ten-day meeting, under the theme: "the transposition of community directives in WAEMU member states: what role for parliamentarians?" », it is for parliamentarians to reflect on the functioning of the community institution, in particular the legal status of the CIP, the challenges and prospects of the transition towards the installation of the UEMOA parliament, as well as to take stock of the execution of the 2021 budget of the CIP on July 31, 2021. Proceeding to the opening of the works, the 4th Vice-President of the Togolese National Assembly, Pacôme Adjourouvi , expressed his satisfaction with the choice made on Lomé to host this second ordinary session of the IPC, on behalf of the year 2021 with a view to consolidating the sub-regional integration process.

Before the opening of the work, the president of CIP-UEMOA, Goakun Rossan Noël Toe, met on Friday, August 6, with the President of the UEMOA Commission. The audience allowed the representatives of the parliamentarians of the Union to present the new orientations initiated by the Interparliamentary Committee as well as the main concerns of the parliamentarians. Guidelines which relate, among other things, to supporting the Union's Democratic Control Body in the Commission's efforts for "the successful implementation of the various reforms, projects and programs for the benefit of the people", according to President Toe leaving the courtroom. He also indicated that he had reviewed the various activities carried out by the CIP and informed President Diop of the new dynamic to be given to the CIP and collected his opinions and recommendations.
