Today, the exchange rate is officially approaching the bar of 100 gourdes for one US dollar. The reference rate communicated by the central bank oscillates around 95.87 gourdes for one dollar.

“This Thursday, August 5, 2012, the Bank of the Republic of Haiti (BRH) injected 15 million US dollars into the foreign exchange market to support the available supply. This amount is distributed and sold on the market according to the conditions set by the central bank, ”announced the bank of banks on its Twitter account. This intervention of the BRH on the foreign exchange market will allow the said institution, of course, to support the supply of currencies but also to sterilize a quantity of liquidity in gourdes. During the 3rd quarter of the fiscal year, the BRH sold 104.3 million US dollars and was able to capture more than 9 billion gourdes. In its latest note on monetary policy, the banking regulator stressed that injections into the foreign exchange market have implications for the balance of payments.
