The meeting is part of the Cybercrime Response in West Africa (OCWAR-C) project funded by the European Union.
The aim is to build the capacity of the players to better understand the issues and challenges of the information technology environment in order to promote the security of goods and people. It is the Minister of Communication, in charge of Relations with Institutions, Mr. Zada Mahamadou acting as Minister of Post and New Information Technologies, who presided over the opening ceremony. The OCWAR-C project is implemented at the request of the European Union (EU) and the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS), said Rabiayatou Bah, Project Coordinator.
The implementation is done by proposing solutions that meet the realities and needs of the country with a view to complementarity and synergy with the ongoing projects in the area, she said. The specific objectives of the project are to improve the resilience and robustness of information infrastructures and also to improve the capacities of stakeholders in charge of the fight against cybercrime. The project is structured in 2 phases. The first made it possible to situate Niger's level in terms of cybersecurity preparation and the development of a detailed action plan which is being implemented for phase 2, called operational, in order to better meet the country's needs.
