Senate green light for bill strengthening counterterrorism measures and intelligence

The Senate dominated by the right-wing opposition adopted, on the night of Tuesday to Wednesday, at the first reading after the National Assembly, a bill strengthening “anti-terrorism” measures and intelligence, presented as “indispensable” by the government. The text, whose senators amended several articles, perpetuates measures inspired by the state of emergency. It was voted by 251 votes to 27 with 66 abstentions. Deputies and senators will try to agree on a common text. In the event of failure, a new reading will be organized in both chambers, with the Assembly having the last word.
