The FATF decision comes after years of criticism from the international community against Malta's political decisions, whether it be the sale of its national passports or the absence of legal measures against representatives mentioned in the “Panama Papers” case. Speaking at a press conference, Robert Abela hinted that the decision was “unfair” and promised to press for progress on reform projects designed to combat financial embezzlement
