The dollar is at its highest in nearly a month against the euro. The greenback climbed Friday to its highest in nearly a month against the euro as traders are already looking ahead to next week's U.S. Central Bank (Fed) meeting. After hesitating throughout the week, the greenback therefore ended the week on a good note, benefiting from the rise in inflation in the United States. Around 7:45 p.m. GMT (9:45 p.m. in Paris), the dollar gained 0.50% to 1.2109 euros per dollar, after reaching 1.2193 dollars in session, its highest since mid-May.
The consumer price index CPI has indeed increased by 5% over one year in May, unheard of for 13 years. On the other side of the Atlantic, the President of the European Central Bank (ECB), Christine Lagarde, questioned on Thursday on the possibility of a reduction in its monetary support for the economy, indicated that it is useless to discuss these longer-term issues.
