Diop and Talon on economic and security issues

The Chairman of the Commission of the West African Economic and Monetary Union (UEMOA), Abdoulaye Diop, on a working visit to Benin, was received in audience by President Patrice Talon yesterday Thursday, June 10, 2021. He was accompanied by a delegation from the Commission. Romuald Wadagni and Aurelien Agbénonci, respectively Minister of State for the Economy and Finance and Minister for Foreign Affairs and Cooperation, the UEMOA Resident Representative in Benin, Yawovi Batchassi and Jonas Ali-Ougbian, UEMOA Commissioner, also took part in discussions on economic and security issues in the subregion.
“The purpose of my visit is to thank the President after my appointment at the head of the Commission for this show of confidence and to renew the Commission's availability to take charge of the guidelines and opinions of the Heads of State”, said the President of the West African Economic and Monetary Union (UEMOA) Commission, Abdoulaye Diop after leaving the hearing. According to him, President Patrice Talon remains an active player in the development of UEMOA

In turn, President Patrice Talon insisted on the topics they discussed. “... We discussed current issues, especially security issues, we know everything that is happening in the West African subregion at the level of the UEMOA in general. It is true that security issues are more acute in a certain number of countries, but all countries are concerned. No country is potentially immune to these difficulties that we are facing. We have extensively debated and discussed these issues to see what could be done in this area and help member states to better deal with this situation,” said the Beninese Head of State.
