The former director general of the Société Équatorial des Mines (SEM) and formerly of the Stabilization and Equalization Fund (Caistab) appeared this Tuesday, June 8, as part of the “Scorpion” anti-corruption operation, for which several senior officials of the public administration are currently in pretrial detention at Libreville central prison. Ismael Ondias was sentenced to 10 years of suspended criminal imprisonment and to pay a fine of 100 million FCFA. Cédric Nang Essonno, former financial director of the SEM, defended by Me Anges Kevin Nzigou, was found not guilty this Tuesday before the specialized criminal court. In addition to 10 years in prison and a fine of 100 million FCFA, Ismael Ondias will also have to repay the 600 million for which he was convicted of embezzlement.
