Mali is not escaping international sanctions after the second coup. After the measures of ECOWAS and the African Union (AU), it is the turn of the World Bank to suspend its financial operations in the country. The World Bank announced it was suspending its financial operations in Mali following the coup in late May, the second in less than a year. In a statement, the Bank said it had “temporarily paused the disbursements of its operations in Mali while it closely monitors and assesses the situation.” This announcement is the first that will have an impact on the economic level in a suffocated country.
This decision by the World Bank results in “the non-processing of requests for disbursements received after 24 May, and those received but not processed before 24 May”, underlines the press release from the Breton Woody administration, which currently finances projects to the tune of 1.5 billion dollars in Mali
