Gross issues on the regional public debt market increased by 136.8%. The overall amount of gross issues in 2020 stood at 10,486.8 billion FCFA against 4,428.9 billion FCFA in 2019. Official figures from the BCEAO indicate a strong annual increase in gross issues in the WAEMU space. This performance, estimated at 136.8%, is explained by a more marked presence of the countries on the regional financial market with a view to covering their financing needs. In its report, the institution specifies that net issues amounted to 4,181.1 billion FCFA against 910.8 billion FCFA a year earlier. According to the financial institution, the preference of the States is oriented towards short-term securities.
