On the occasion of the celebration of the 60th anniversary of the African Department of the International Monetary Fund (IMF), Alassane Ouattara guest of Kristalina Georgieva, Managing Director of the international financial institution, pleaded for a significant increase in the volume of financing granted to countries former Director of the African Department of the IMF, the Ivorian Head of State, speaking by videoconference, declared that despite efforts to mobilize domestic resources and the contribution of the private sector, African countries will unfortunately not be able to cover all the needs for economic recovery. According to the IMF, these needs are estimated over the next 5 years at around 425 billion US dollars.

Alassane Ouattara welcomed the work underway by the IMF with a view to making available, as during the 2009 financial crisis, to the various member countries 650 billion dollars in special drawing allocations, including 23 billion US dollars to the countries of Sub-Saharan Africa. However, this will not be sufficient and the volume of funding should be extended to African countries.
