Although with the coronavirus pandemic, the sector had experienced a slowdown, the indicators are green again for the 2021/2022 campaign. In West Africa, the ginning segment will return to normal in 2021/2022. During this season, cotton fiber production is indeed expected to increase to 1.46 million tons, an increase of 38% compared to the volume of the previous season (1 million tons) and a new record. This dynamic is explained in particular by more profitable prices from one year to the next, which encourage seed cotton producers to increase their investments, particularly in Mali and Burkina Faso.
In both Côte d'Ivoire and Benin, the expected increased harvests during this season should also improve ginning activities. According to the intergovernmental group, the export segment will also record a record volume with 1.44 million tons of fiber destined for the international market in 2021/2022. Overall fiber production is expected to increase by 5.5% to 25.5 million tons
