The Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development (OECD) Global Forum on Transparency and Information Exchange for Tax Purposes published its latest report on Africa on 26 May 2021. The document reveals that several billion dollars escape African states every year. The progress made by African states for fiscal transparency is still too slow. In its new report, the OECD points out that between 50 and 80 billion dollars a year escape African states. More than 34 million euros recovered in 2020 and more than 1.2 billion since 2009. These are the striking results, collected in the form of taxes, interest and penalties, of the fight against tax evasion on the African continent.
The report recognizes that in the absence of capital flight, per capita income would be 1.5% higher and the poverty rate almost two percentage points lower in Africa.

Note that the OECD Global Forum, the African Union Commission (AU) and the African Tax Administration Forum (ATAF), which jointly publish this document, testify to the progress made since the launch in 2014 of an “Africa Initiative” to improve tax transparency on the continent. “Initiative Africa now brings together 32 countries and eleven partners, including the World Bank, the African Development Bank (AfDB), the AU Commission and the European Union.
