The Nigerian start-up Curacel, created in 2017, intends to track down insurance fraud from Morocco to Côte d'Ivoire. Nigerian insurtech intends to rely on the network of customers such as AXA Mansard

or Old Mutual.

Observing the extent of insurance fraud, Curacel managers have made a strategic shift, relying on artificial intelligence (AI) to detect these bad practices, a service that has seduced insurers such as AXA Mansard, Liberty Health or Old Mutual.
The company, which already works with more than 800 hospitals in Nigeria, Ghana and Uganda, expects to expand into no less than seven new markets by the end of the year. Tanzania, Rwanda, Senegal, and Morocco are on the list.
The company's cloud-based software uses AI to replace manual form verification — which requires a lot of work — with automated processes. “Being cloud-based means you can grow anywhere,” Henry Mascot tells The Africa Report/Jeune Afrique.
This includes identifying invalid applications that may be filed by hospitals anywhere in the world, he says, citing common cases of slightly modifying existing application forms and recycling them as new forms, or creating application forms for people who have never been to the hospital
