BCEAO statistics indicate that inflation in Burkina Faso is the highest among WAEMU countries. During a trade union meeting, the president of the Trade Union Action Unit (UAS), Ernest Ouédraogo noted a gloom that resulted in unemployment that hit young people massively.

Public, para-public, private and informal sector workers hit the pavement this Saturday, May 1, 2021 in Ouagadougou, to commemorate International Labor Day. During this mobilization, the unions denounced the inflation in Burkina and the bad governance that prevails in the segments of socio-economic life.
“The social sectors of education, health and housing are in a fairly deep crisis, victims of state disengagement and blatant land speculation. The prices of everyday consumer products such as hydrocarbons, sugar, food, etc., are constantly on the rise. Moreover, BCEAO (Central Bank of West African States) statistics indicate that inflation in Burkina Faso is the highest among WAEMU (West African Economic and Monetary Union) countries” , says Ernest Ouedraogo. He adds that the social dialogue is practically at an impasse.
