Weekly liquidity injection operations into the banking system, carried out by the Bank of Central African States (Beac), amounted to 1,213 billion FCFA in banks in March 2021.

A record envelope of 1,213 billion FCFA was made available to credit institutions in this six-state community area (Cameroon, Central African Republic, Congo, Gabon, Equatorial Guinea and Chad) during the month of March 2021. “Credit institutions in the subregion have never captured so many resources during the central bank's weekly liquidity injection operations over a period of one month,” notes the Caisse Autonome d'Amortization (CAA) in its latest report on Cameroon's public debt at the end of March 2021

.

The dynamism observed around bank refinancing at Beac is associated with credit institutions that require liquidity when their needs are greater than their usual consumption. This increase in liquidity consumption at the beginning of the year can, therefore, be explained by the gradual resumption of economic activities, despite the 2nd wave of the coronavirus, a pandemic that plagued the Cemac economies during 2020
