Togolese President Faure Gnassingbé inaugurated on Monday a new power plant located in the port area. It has an installed capacity of 65 MW.

''Kékéli Efficient Power'' is located in the port area. It has an installed capacity of 65 MW (in a second phase) and operates in a combined cycle, making it possible to produce more electricity without additional gas consumption and by limiting CO2 emissions. The first flame of Kékéli Efficient Power was lit on April 26 by the Togolese Head of State, Faure Gnassingbé, less than two years after the start of work.
The construction was carried out by the Spanish Group Grupo TSK (EPC) while the project is being developed by the Eranove Group with the support of a banking pool comprising Orabank Togo, BOAD, AFC (Africa Finance Corporation), Banque Atlantique Togo, BIA Togo and NSIA. The State is a 25% co-shareholder.

"This plant will contribute to meeting the challenge of access to electricity thanks to a significant increase in production capacities which will contribute significantly to the development and economic influence of Togo", declared Mansour Touré-Tia, the general manager. of Kekeli Efficient Power.

The commissioning concerns the plant's 47 megawatt gas turbine – already making it the largest generating unit in the country, according to its designers – and it will be completed by the end of the year by a steam turbine to reach a power of 65.5 megawatts. The combined gas-steam regime, “makes it possible to produce more electricity without additional gas consumption and by limiting CO2 emissions into the atmosphere,” specifies Eranove.

This masterpiece generates a 50% increase in the country's electricity production capacity, allowing, in synergy with current network extension projects, the electrification of 263,000 Togolese households, i.e. nearly 2 million of people.
