The UK is considering a cryptocurrency, issued by the Bank of England. A task force launched by the Bank of England (BoE) and the Treasury of the United Kingdom will assess the possibility and interest of launching a British digital currency (cryptocurrency).

With the aim of carrying out transactions without going through banks, the United Kingdom is working on a possible cryptocurrency. “A central bank digital currency (CBDC) would be a new form of currency, issued by the Bank of England (BoE) and usable by individuals and businesses, that would exist alongside cash and cash accounts. bank without replacing them," says the BoE.
Through a forum, the British working group will notably study several questions raised by the implementation of a digital currency. According to the BoE, this will involve developing concrete scenarios for the use of a CBDC, the technological needs of users, the role of public and private actors in such a system, and the implications for the protection of privacy.
Unlike cryptocurrencies, issued in a decentralized way or by companies and whose security is mainly ensured by the cryptography used, central banks would keep control of CBDCs.
