The American Department of Agriculture (USDA) announces that cotton production in Mali could rebound by 87% if conditions, particularly rainfall and low pest pressure, are met.

Cotton production could reach 2.31 million bales according to the USDA outlook. Exports would amount to 2.26 million bales while stocks would fall by 4%.
After the collapse of cotton production in 2020/21 in Mali following the boycott of cotton farmers, Mali would return to its former glory in 2021/22 with a 324% increase in sown areas to 700,000 hectares.
Thus, if all conditions are met, production would increase by 353% to 1.29 million bales, the USDA estimates. As a result, exports would also bounce back to 1.26 million bales, 45% better than in 2020/21.
Burkina Faso's production is expected to appreciate, up 8% to 985,000 bales, with areas increasing by 6% to 590,000 hectares.
For the fourth consecutive year, Côte d'Ivoire should again reach a new production record of 1.1 million bales in 2021/22, up 10%. In 2020/21, Côte d'Ivoire propelled itself to the second place among cotton producers-exporters in sub-Saharan Africa, behind

Benin, the African champion.
