The Minister of Digital Economy and Telecommunications has just reaffirmed the commitment of the State of Senegal to deal with the problem of the protection of children on the Internet. Yankhoba Diatara organized, Thursday and Friday in Thiès, a training workshop on the protection of children online (Pel).

50 high school students were made aware of good practices in the use of digital tools and 30 media players were invited to better care for children in the processing and dissemination of information online.
The Minister of Digital Economy and Telecommunications placed the workshop within the framework of the implementation of the national action plan on the protection of children online (Pel). This requires the establishment of a “trusted, secure and resilient cyberspace for all”. In other words, the state wants to promote a generalized culture of cybersecurity in Senegal.

According to Yankhoba Diatara, children and young people are users and innovators on the Internet which, despite many advantages, pose many risks: sexual exploitation of children, cyber harassment, cyber bullying, denigration, violent extremism, addiction to electronic games, etc
"Therefore, should we welcome the State's initiatives for the protection of children online and urge all actors to support it," said the Minister of the Digital Economy and Telecommunications. He argued that "to meet this challenge, the question of the digital sovereignty of the country must first be resolved", he said.

Addressing media players, Yankhoba Diatara invited them to “better support for children in the processing and dissemination of information online”. Also, given the pandemic context and the abuses noted on the web, in particular social networks, he invited them to “participate in the popularization of barrier cybergestures to be adopted by populations with a view to the emergence of responsible cybercitizens”.
