The President of Burkina Faso, Roch Marc Christian Kaboré now chairs the Conference of Heads of State and Government of the Union, replacing the Ivorian President, Alassane Ouattara. He was elected by his peers at the 22nd ordinary session of the Conference of Heads of State and Government of the West African Economic and Monetary Union (UEMOA).

Roch Marc Christian Kaboré expressed his gratitude for the choice of his person to preside over the destinies of UEMOA which, through its specialized institutions, has enabled the implementation of community projects, in a global and sub-regional context marked by economic, health and security crises.
He congratulated the Ivorian President, Alassane Ouattara, who is handing over the chair to him and whose leadership at the head of the Union has made it possible to achieve “encouraging” results.
In view of the decline in growth in WAEMU in 2020 due to the pandemic, Roch Marc Christian Kaboré invited his counterparts to greater mobilization and unfailing solidarity, to reverse the trend and ensure the growth essential to the development and poverty reduction.
