The Togolese Revenue Office (OTR) and the Directorate of Road and Rail Transport (DTRF) have announced to Togolese consumers that technical inspection formalities will now be subject to payment of Motor Vehicle Tax (TVM). A decision that the Martin Luther King Movement (MMLK- the voice of the voiceless) treats as inadmissible.

The new Motor Vehicle Tax is payable in full once a year, starting March 15, 2021. The amount of the sticker varies from 10,000 FCFA for 5 horsepower vehicles to 130,000 FCFA for trucks over 12 tons, while motorcycles over 125 cc will pay 15,000 FCFA.
The movement of Pastor Edoh Komi finds it unacceptable that exorbitant taxes are still being imposed on Togolese consumers at this time of health crisis when economic activities are idling.
"After a careful and thorough analysis of the OTR and DTRF joint communiqué, it is evident that the current period is recognized as that of a state of emergency due to the Covid-19 pandemic where financial difficulties and economic impacts are hitting people hard. And despite everything, the taxpayers normally already pay the fiscal and municipal taxes to which was added the toll charge for the maintenance of the roads,” lamented the MMLK.
He asks that this tax which is an “excess tax” be lifted and cancelled.
