The Minister of Financial Services, Mahen Seeruttun, unveiled all the efforts that the government is making to get Mauritius out of the impasse, on Wednesday, February 10, 2021, during the launch of Mauritius Finance which is a merger of the Association of Trust and Management Companies (ATMC) and Global Finance Mauritius (GFM), at the Le Méridien hotel in Pointe-aux-Piments.

Mauritius is stepping up efforts to get off the Financial Action Task Force (FATF) gray list and the European Union blacklist. The efforts are laborious but do not seem sufficient for the country to be recognized as a financial center of choice. Moreover, the government is doing all it can to find new customers.
“Maurice has made every effort possible. We have submitted all the information,” the minister said, speaking about the removal of Mauritius from the FATF gray list. He argued that the government has accepted the challenge to do everything possible to get Mauritius off this list as soon as possible.
For Mahen Seeruttun, Mauritius has respected the FATF timetable. The government will take all the necessary decisions, including the revision of the structure of certain regulatory bodies. He remains hopeful that Maurice will come out of this gray list. Regarding the EU, he claimed to have had confirmation that once Mauritius is removed from the FATF gray list, it will only be a matter of weeks for Mauritius to be removed from the EU blacklist. .
