Commercial activity in UEMOA continued its downward trend in November 2020. The trade turnover index (Ica) registered a decline of 1.8% in November 2020. The Trade Turnover Index (Ica) in UEMOA continued its downward trend, on a monthly basis, with a fall of 1.8% in November 2020, after reaching -2.9% in October 2020.
The monthly economic forecast of the BCEAO indicates that the decline in retail trade activity is mainly due to the decrease in sales of petroleum products, food products, pharmaceutical and cosmetic products, press items, bookstores, stationery and school supplies, and housing equipment.
This trend was moderated by the increase in purchases of cars, motorcycles and spare parts (Benin, Guinea Bissau, Mali and Togo). Year-on-year, the rate of change in the trade turnover index remained negative, from -2.2% in October 2020 to -4.0% in November 2020
