7 West African countries benefit from a financial envelope of €2.4 million for the resilience of their agricultural sector. This support targets 11 pilot projects.

The 11 projects concerned were selected in December 2020 following the second call for project proposals launched in June 2020 by Expertise France for a more climate-resilient agriculture in ECOWAS. This project is part of the ecowas umbrella and in collaboration with the Permanent Interstate Committee for Drought Control in the Sahel (Cilss), within the framework of the "GCCA+West Africa" project funded by the European Union (EU).
The common mission of these projects is to finance the implementation and capitalization of innovative local solutions with high replication and/or scale-up potential for the West African region on adaptation to the impacts of climate change (seed selection, climate services, agro-ecological practices, early warning systems) and the mitigation of greenhouse gas emissions (carbon storage, solar pumped mining, renewable energies in processing units, etc.)", underlines the press release of Expertise France at the end of January.
The 7 countries hosting the implementation of its projects are : Cape Verde, Gambia, Ghana, Guinea, Guinea-Bissau, Nigeria, and Sierra Leone. The program will start in 2021 for a period of 20 months.
