Despite the difficult health context in Mali, the mining company Barrick Gold Corporation was able to exceed its forecasts for the year 2020. In front of the press, officials announced on February 6, 2021 a total production of 680.215 ounces of gold.

According to Mark Bristow, President and Executive Director of Barrick Gold Corporation, the Loulo-Gounkoto mining complex produced during the year 2020, 680.215 ounces of gold, thus exceeding its forecast for the year despite the Covid-19. Over the period, the dividends paid to the State amounted to 240 million dollars.
“Loulo and Gounkoto have declared and paid cumulative dividends of around $240 million in 2020, or 120 billion FCFA. Over the past 24 years, Barrick and its historical company Randgold Resources have contributed to the Malian economy to the tune of 7.7 billion dollars or more than 3500 billion FCFA in the form of taxes, royalties, salaries and payments to local suppliers. Its annual contribution represents between 5 and 10% of the country's GDP (Gross Domestic Product), ”suggested Mark Bristow.
He also said that the Loulo-Gounkoto complex has continued to support and develop local businesses, spending more than $375 million (with local contractors and suppliers in 2020.
