The banks of the West African Economic and Monetary Union (UEMOA) saw the debit interest rates applied to their customers decline in December 2020. A drop of 0.2% compared to the previous month.

According to the survey on banking conditions carried out by the Central Bank of West African States (BCEAO), the average borrowing rate calculated at the WAEMU level stood at 6.3% against 6 .5% in November 2020. The rate of return on customer deposits stood at 4.8% in December 2020, i.e. at the same level as the achievements of the previous month.
According to data from this survey, the average amount of bids on the weekly auction window stood at 3,640.5 billion FCFA on the regional money market.
The interbank market, for its part, saw the average weekly volume of transactions increase by 27.8% to stand at CFAF 363.2 billion in December 2020. Under the one-week compartment, the average volume of transactions increased established at 279.2 billion FCFA in December 2020, after 187.4 billion FCFA a month earlier.
