The Regional Council for Public Savings and Financial Markets (CREPMF) has just set up, at the
benefit of financial market players in the West African Monetary Union (UMOA), a guide for
the issuance of green bonds ("Green, social and Sustainable Bonds") in the community space.
The tool, established in partnership with the World Bank Group, aims to help promote the use of
capital markets in the financing of projects that meet the environmental, social and
to the imperatives of sustainable development in the sub-region.
It is also about expanding the investment ecosystem, fostering the development of the
green bonds in the WAMU zone, and to attract new regional issuers and investors
national and international in this segment.
The Guide, we learn, is mainly based on the principles enacted by the International Association of
Capital Markets (ICMA), one of the two sustainable finance benchmarks in the world. All this in
taking into consideration the specificities of the regional financial market.
